Schenectady County Recycling Initiatives

Schenectady County is dedicated to promoting sustainability and reducing waste across the county.  Recycling is an easy and convenience way to keep various materials, such as food scraps, paper, cardboard, plastics, paint, and electronics out of local landfills. By diverting recyclable and compostable materials from landfills and waterways and properly disposing of household hazardous waste, you can help conserve natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect our soil, and keep our water clean and safe.

Household Hazardous Waste Events

Household Hazardous Waste Events

Household cleaners, lawn and garden products, pesticides and insecticides, paint, solvents, automobile fluids, thermostats and other products containing mercury are dangerous when improperly stored at home or thrown away.  Schenectady County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events are held throughout the year to help you dispose of your leftover unwanted household hazardous chemicals and toxic materials in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

E-Waste Recycling Events

E-Waste Recycling Events

Schenectady County is offering a FREE e-waste recycling event for the first time ever. All you need to do is sign up for an appointment and bring your e-waste to a Schenectady County E-Waste Collection Event location. When you drop off your e-waste, a certified electronics recycler will keep your old devices out of a landfill.  Events are held periodically throughout the year and are free and accessible to Schenectady County residents.
