In-Home Assistance through Medicaid

If you or a loved one you care for receive Medicaid, in-home care services may be available to eligible adults 18 years old and older through a Local Department of Social Services program, which is overseen by Schenectady County Senior and Long Term Care.

What Services Are Available through Medicaid?

If you or someone you care for is eligible, you can receive Personal Care Aide (PCA) services through a licensed home care agency or through a Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Services (CDPAS) program.  These programs can assist with ones activities of daily living that are necessary to maintaining health and safety at home.  

The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Services program allows you or your designated representative to hire someone of your own choosing.

You, the consumer, or your designated representative will be responsible for hiring, training, and ultimately terminating the employment of the person you choose to hire.

Must have active Medicaid

Adults 18 and over, must complete an initial assessment and be determined eligible by New York Independent Assessors (NYIA).
