Applications for Job Seekers Open Until April 29

Schenectady County is now accepting applications for the 2022 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Applicants must be 14-24 years old by the application deadline and be a resident of Schenectady County. Funding for the program comes from grants, New York State and Federal government, a majority of which is allocated to youth whose family receives TANF, SNAP, or whose total household income does not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level.

SYEP is a unique opportunity for youth to gain 6 weeks of meaningful, on-the-job training during the summer. Youth selected to participate in the program will be assigned a worksite and are able to work for 20 hours per week and earn $13.20 per hour through Schenectady County Connects (Schenectady County Job Training Agency). The program runs July 5 – August 12, 2022.

“Schenectady County is committed to developing our workforce by providing opportunities for all. This not only helps individuals but will also ultimately help the County as a whole,” said Schenectady County Legislator Omar McGill, Chair of the Workforce Development Committee. “Our Summer Youth Employment Program is a great opportunity for youth in our community to gain skills they can use for the rest of their lives. We encourage youth who meet the criteria and are looking to gain some work experience or build their resume to apply for the program as soon as possible. We also encourage anyone looking for job or skills training, or employment opportunities to visit www.schenectadycounty.com/sjta.”

Applicants must:
