Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS) has administered over 1,500 vaccines to 5–11-year-olds since they were first authorized on November 4. Over 1,100 of these vaccines were administered through SCHPH’s partnership with local schools to hold PODs at 17 elementary schools throughout the County.
Vaccines for 5–11-year-olds, and primary and booster shots for all other eligible individuals are available at regularly scheduled SCPHS PODs. Due to an increase in demand for COVID-19 vaccines, appointments are currently required for booster shots at regularly scheduled Sunday and Monday PODs. Appointments are available at www.schenectadycounty.com/COVID19/vaccine or by calling (518) 388-4355. Thursday PODs do not require appointments.
“Getting vaccinated is one way we can help protect our friends, family and neighbors from COVID-19, especially during the holiday season,” said Schenectady County Legislator Michelle Ostrelich, Chair of the Health & Human Services Committee. “Almost all of our current COVID-related hospitalizations are unvaccinated individuals, so we encourage everyone who is 5 years of age or older to get vaccinated and also get a booster shot once you’re eligible. Vaccination offers the best protection for all age groups from serious illness, hospitalization and death associated with COVID-19.”

Volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corps
SCPHS uses MRC volunteers, medical and non-medical, to help with the County’s vaccine efforts. As eligibility has increased for primary and booster shots, more volunteers are needed. People interested in signing up for the MRC can visit https://apps.health.ny.gov/pub/servny/.
