Free to Schenectady County Residents
Schenectady County will hold its first rabies vaccination clinic for cats, ferrets, and dogs in 2025 in Schenectady on April 12. Since introducing the drive-thru format in 2020, Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS) has vaccinated a total of 1,853 dogs, 967 cats, and 2 ferrets. On average, the clinic vaccinates one animal every 30 seconds, making the process quick and efficient.
SCPHS hosts drive-thru rabies vaccination clinics to make it easier for residents and families to keep their pets' vaccines up to date. Residents can register online for an appointment time and provide information about their animals, allowing SCPHS to create a vaccination certificate for each pet. The drive-thru model has helped reduce stress on animals, minimize wait times, and accommodate residents with multiple pets in a single visit. The clinic is free to Schenectady County residents. Cats and ferrets must be in carriers, and dogs must be leashed.
“Vaccinating pets against rabies is an important step in keeping both our pets and community safe,” said Schenectady County Legislator Omar McGill, Vice Chair of the Health, Housing & Human Services Committee. “Our drive-thru clinics make it simple and convenient for pet owners to get their animals vaccinated, ensuring peace of mind and helping to prevent the spread of this serious disease.”

Bats can carry rabies.
