Schenectady County to Host Free Bus Trip for Veterans to The Wall That Heals Exhibit in Queens

Schenectady County Veterans Peer to Peer Support Program Bus Trip to The Wall That Heals Exhibit in Queens, NY

Transportation and Food Provided

The Schenectady County Veterans Peer to Peer Support Program is hosting a bus trip for county veterans to visit The Wall that Heals while the exhibit is being held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, NY. Transportation and food will be provided at no charge, and veterans can request to have a family member or caregiver accompany them to help make the trip more accessible.

The Wall that Heals exhibit features a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. that includes the names of more than 58,000 service members who gave their lives in service in the Vietnam conflict. Visitors can create name rubbings of individual machine engraved names, which are listed by day of casualty on the panels.[1] [2]

“Our new Veterans Peer to Peer Program is a great resource for Schenectady County residents who have served in the military, whether on active duty, or in the Reserves or National Guard,” said Schenectady County Legislator Holly Vellano, Chair of the Military Affairs & Veterans Committee. “Creating opportunities for veterans to connect with each other and reflect on their service can help them find understanding, healing, and strength to carry their legacy of service forward.”
