The Schenectady County Legislature announced two-time Grammy winning hip-hop group Arrested Development

as the headliner for Schenectady County SummerNight on Friday, July 14, 2023 in downtown Schenectady. B-roll of Arrested Development is available here.

Schenectady County’s FREE family-friendly summer block party is presented by Rivers Casino & Resort with support from Saratoga Eagle. In partnership with the City of Schenectady the event will take over State Street between Broadway and Barrett Street, and on Jay Street, in the center of the city’s most vibrant eateries and shops.

“We’re very excited to bring headlining talent Arrested Development to Schenectady County SummerNight, the Capital Region’s biggest summer block party,” said Schenectady County Legislator Cathy Gatta, Chair of the Committee on Tourism, Arts & Special Events. “Residents and visitors from near and far are invited to immerse themselves in a whirlwind of live music, delicious food, and fun games for all ages in downtown Schenectady on July 14.”

The Stockade Kids will reunite for the first time since 2016 on the main stage and be followed by a special performance by DJ Ketchup and DJ HollyW8D celebrating 50 years of hip-hop. Headliner Arrested Development will take the stage at approximately 8:30 p.m. and DJ Ketchup and DJ HollyW8D will play a set during the grand finale with Price Chopper & Market 32 fireworks. The Sunmark Credit Union Stage will include live musical performances by Whits End, Girl Blue, and Grand Central Station starting at 5:00 p.m.

The ever popular sand sculpture sponsored by CDTA will again be created right before guests’ eyes beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning.

“We’re so happy to be partnering once again with Schenectady County as presenting sponsor for the Capital Region’s biggest and best summer block party,” said Rivers Casino & Resort General Manager, Joe Lodise. “Downtown Schenectady will be the place to be on July 14, and we can’t wait to see everyone there for an amazing night of live music, food, fireworks, and fun.”

Kid-friendly activities will take place in the newly expanded Best Fitness/MVP Health Care Kids Zone on Jay Street in front of City Hall. The Kids Zone will feature an opportunity for children to “test drive a trumpet,” glaze sculptural tiles, create fence art, and add to a mural. There will be corn hole, a basketball shootout, a 100-foot inflatable obstacle course, henna tattoos and face painting. For families with very young children, there will be four lactation tents available for privacy. Schenectady County Sheriff will be on site with information on Safe Child ID.

Arrested Development may be headlining, but the City’s best food will take center stage at Schenectady County SummerNight. Downtown restaurants and vendors will offer delicious food, drinks, and desserts for sale throughout the event. Restaurants and shops will remain open for business during the event and many will bring their operations outdoors so revelers will not miss a minute of Schenectady County SummerNight excitement.

Schenectady County SummerNight is presented by Rivers Casino and Resort and Saratoga Eagle in partnership with the City of Schenectady, with additional support from MVP Health Care, Price Chopper/Market 32, Sunmark CU, CDTA, and Best Fitness.
