It is our understanding that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security provided an inventory of federal sites where New York State could potentially house asylum seekers.
We have been assured that the State does not endorse this list or the relocation of additional asylum seekers to Schenectady County.
The federal government must act to address the complexity of the ongoing immigration crisis. Until they do, the impact on our communities could be significant, and they run the risk of overburdening our schools, local municipalities, and other service providers, and their ability to serve residents.
