Sentencing of Edmund Poole

District Attorney

On April 15, 2022, in Schenectady County Court, Edmund Poole, of Schenectady, was sentenced to a range of four [4] years to twelve [12] years in prison in connection with his previous pleas of guilty to four counts of Possessing A Sexual Performance By a Child in violation of Penal Law Section 263.16. The sentence occurred because Mr. Poole pled guilty on February 16, 2022, to possessing four separate images of children under the age of sixteen engaged in sexual conduct. Mr. Poole will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.  Mr. Poole possessed those images on December 14, 2020, and March 31, 2021, at his residence in the City of Schenectady. The case was investigated by New York State Police and the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The investigation began when the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children [NCMEC] received a tip from Discord Inc. [a social media messaging application] that a user was uploading images of possible child exploitation to their server. An IP Address associated with Mr. Poole was determined to be the source. Based on that information on March 31, 2021, a search warrant was executed at Mr. Poole’s residence, where electronic devices were seized. Those devices were analyzed by New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit in Latham, New York. The analysis or Mr. Poole’s electronic devices located additional images of child pornography.
Acting County Court Judge Mark J. Caruso presided. The People were represented by Assistant District Attorney John J. Carson. Mr. Poole is represented by Attorney James L. Riotto. For further information contact Assistant District Attorney John J. Carson at 518-810-7365.
