Proceeds Support New Trees for Trees Public Grant Program

The Schenectady County Conservation District is excited to announce the launch of its annual Tree & Shrub Sale, now open for orders. This year’s sale features a wide variety of native deciduous and evergreen trees, fruit-bearing shrubs, flowers, seed mixes, wildlife houses, natural compost, mulch, and more, with supplies limited. New for 2025, the sale includes the Bird and Butterfly Variety Pack, featuring plants like Black Chokeberry, Elderberry, Liatris Spicata, Ninebark, and Apricot Beauty Daylily, as well as a Northeast Annual and Perennial Wildflower Seed Mix. Supplies are limited and orders can be placed online by April 24, 2025.

The sale helps bring more native plants to our community, which require less water to maintain, reduce the need for chemical treatments, and provide crucial support for local wildlife. Proceeds from the sale will support conservation efforts throughout Schenectady County, helping to protect and preserve our natural resources for future generations.

“The Schenectady County Conservation District is a valuable resource for our community, providing a variety of services aimed at protecting and preserving our natural resources,” said Schenectady County Legislator Richard Ruzzo, Vice Chair of the Environmental Conservation, Renewable Energy & Parks Committee. “The plants featured in the sale not only support soil and water conservation, but the funds raised also benefit important programs and conservation efforts throughout the County.”

Trees for Trees Public Grant

Proceeds from the annual sale will help support the new Trees for Trees Public Grant program, which promotes tree planting in public spaces. Schools, municipal departments, and local community-based organizations can apply for grants of up to $500 for tree plantings in accessible public areas.

To apply, the online application must be submitted by July 31, 2025. Eligible applications will be reviewed by the Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Directors at their August 2025 meeting.
