Schenectady County hosted a tour of the County’s Recreational Facility today to show how far the expansion and renovation project has progressed since work started at the site earlier this year, and to unveil the facility’s new electric Zamboni.
The project includes the addition of 4,660 square feet of space for four new locker rooms, an additional changing room, expanded restroom facilities, and a new and larger front entrance. It also includes a new exterior modern façade, a new room for activities, and will extend the parking lot approximately 30 spaces.
“This project represents a significant investment in our community, one that will enhance the experience for everyone who uses the Schenectady County Recreational Facility,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “From our hockey teams to families enjoying open skate, these upgrades reflect our commitment to supporting youth sports and creating a hub for sports tourism right here in Schenectady County. We're excited for what's ahead and grateful for everyone’s patience as we complete this transformation.”

The rink hosts hundreds of hockey games every year and offers a wide range of programs from ice skating to hockey, including learn-to-skate programs and introduction to hockey. In 2023, attendance exceeded 29,000 people during open skating and generated over $400,000 in revenue.
