Schenectady County Sheriff's Office Investigates Complaints - Scam Alert

The Schenectady County Sheriff's Office is investigating complaints involving Schenectady County residents receiving telephone calls and text messages from individuals stating they are members of the Schenectady County Sheriff's Office. The callers are demanding large sums of money and telling residents to go to the Schenectady County Correctional Facility.

The typical scenario is the caller will often tell you that you missed grand jury and you have accumulated fines in excess of $3,000 or face 30 days in jail. The caller also asks for you to travel to the Schenectady County Correctional Facility with two forms of ID, meet in the parking lot, and await further instructions to put said money into the kiosk inside the lobby of the Schenectady County Jail.

The Schenectady County Sheriff's Office is urging Schenectady County residents not to provide any personal information if they receive similar telephone calls or text messages.
