Schenectady County Connects is seeking Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from businesses and organizations to participate in its After-School Employment Program, offering valuable employment opportunities for local youth ages 14-20. Through this program, Schenectady County Connects will cover youth wages and assume workplace liability, while businesses and organizations provide on-site work experience.

“This program is an incredible opportunity to invest in the future of Schenectady County’s workforce,” said County Legislator Omar McGill, Chair of the Workforce Development Committee. “By partnering with local businesses and organizations, we’re not only helping our youth develop critical job skills, but also supporting the growth of our community’s economy. We’re excited to work with employers who share our commitment to providing these valuable learning experiences.”

The program runs during the academic year, from September 2024 to June 2025, with youth working up to 10 hours per week. Hours are flexible, with options available Monday through Friday between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and weekends between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Businesses and organizations interested in applying for funding can submit proposals at https://bit.ly.YouthJobsRFP2024-25. Applications are due by October 1, 2024, with award amounts up to $10,000 available.

In 2024, the program, which launched in January, engaged 54 youth across 9 local businesses and worksites. This year, the County is aiming to serve 75 participants, creating even more opportunities for young people to gain hands-on work experience.

The program is funded through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). Schenectady County Connects is seeking partners within the County that can provide after-school employment opportunities that would not otherwise exist organically, ensuring that more youth can gain experience in a supportive, real-world environment.
