The Schenectady County Legislature will consider a public benefit services agreement on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, that includes $5 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to support the Mohawk Harbor Arena project.
The proposed agreement between the County and West Yard Properties, LLC, which will construct the events and sports center at Mohawk Harbor, includes a seven-year recapture period that requires the grantee to host at least 15 events each year during that timeframe. It also designates the facility as a backup venue for Schenectady County SummerNight and SUNY Schenectady’s graduation ceremony in case of bad weather.
“The new Mohawk Harbor Arena will allow Discover Schenectady to attract new sports tournaments, conferences, trade shows, and other special events to our community, resulting in significant economic activity for our hotels, restaurants and small businesses,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Our goal is to invest in projects that will have a lasting impact on our community. This new facility will build upon our success at the harbor and position Schenectady County as a destination for a new demographic of visitors from the region, New York State, and beyond."
