The Schenectady County Human Rights Commission (SCHRC) will host an Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. observance concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Rotterdam Community Center, located at 705 Curry Road.

The theme of the event is Begin with the End in Mind: Building Community Within the County, focusing on the civil rights movement’s historical roots to confront injustice and inspire action. The program will include live music provided by Albany Voices of Pride, powerful words, and dynamic speakers.

“The Schenectady County Human Rights Commission invites the community to celebrate Dr. King’s vision of unity, justice, and equality,” said Arthur Butler, Executive Director of the Schenectady County Human Rights Commission. “We’re proud to feature Albany Voices of Pride, honoring the legacy of Bayard Rustin, whose contributions to the 1963 March on Washington remind us of the power of allies in advancing civil rights. Join us as we work toward building a stronger, more inclusive community for all.”

The Schenectady County Human Rights Commission was established in 1965 to foster mutual respect and enhance understanding among all racial, religious and ethnic groups in Schenectady County, and to assist individuals in securing their legal rights.
