Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS) is hosting free naloxone training and information sessions for community members on Thursday, November 21, 2024 and on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in Schenectady.

SCPHS is hosting a series of in-person trainings and information sessions throughout 2024 to empower community members with the knowledge and skills to address opioid overdose effectively. These sessions provide valuable education on recognizing the signs of overdose, preventative measures, and the administration of Naloxone, equipping attendees with life-saving techniques and access to essential resources in combating opioid-related emergencies. Participants will receive a free naloxone kit and fentanyl/xylazine test strips upon completion of the training.

“During the holiday season, when stress and substance use can sometimes increase, the risk of overdose also tends to rise,” said Schenectady County Legislator Michelle Ostrelich, Chair of the Health, Housing & Human Services Committee. “These training sessions provide an important opportunity for community members to learn how to recognize the signs of an overdose and respond effectively. By offering these resources, we can help reduce the impact of opioid-related emergencies and save lives.”
