Events Planned at Hon. Karen B. Johnson and Mont Pleasant Branch Libraries
The Schenectady County Public Library (SCPL) will host two events featuring award-winning American cartoonist Jerry Craft at the end of August.
“We are thrilled and honored to welcome award-winning author and cartoonist Jerry Craft to Schenectady County,” said Schenectady County Legislator Michelle Ostrelich, Vice-Chair of the Education & Libraries Committee. “His New Kid graphic novels appeal to both avid and struggling readers, making them a great tool to help kids get back into literacy and learning, especially as they transition back into school after summer break.”

The events are best suited for children in grades 2 and up.
Jerry Craft is the New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of the graphic novels New Kid, Class Act, and School Trip. New Kid is the only book in history to win the John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature (2020), the Kirkus Prize for Young Readers’ Literature (2019), and the Coretta Scott King Author Award for the most outstanding work by an African American writer (2020). Jerry was born in Harlem and grew up in the Washington Heights section of New York City.
