Recognizes Children Adopted in 2024 and their Families

Announces Informational Meetings for Prospective Foster and Adoptive Parents

Last night the Schenectady County Legislature recognized 20 children, including three sibling groups, and their adoptive families in honor of National Adoption Month. Each child received a certificate and a resolution proclaiming November as National Adoption Month in Schenectady was passed by the legislature.

“Adoption is a life-changing journey that creates strong, loving families and gives children the stability and support they deserve,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Recognizing National Adoption Month helps highlight the importance of providing every child with a forever home. We celebrate the families who have opened their hearts to adoption and the children who have found a supportive and loving home.”

Informational Meetings for Prospective Foster and Adoptive Parents

Schenectady County will host two informational open houses on Monday, December 2, 2024 for residents who would like to learn more about becoming a foster or adoptive parent. Staff from the Office of Children and Family Services will be available to answer any questions residents might have.

Taking the first step toward becoming an adoptive or foster parent can seem overwhelming,” said Schenectady County Legislator Omar McGill, Vice-Chair of the Health, Housing & Human Services Committee. “These open houses will provide essential information and give residents the opportunity to meet with our expert staff, who are ready to answer questions and support them every step of the way.”

Some of the topics that will be covered during the informational meeting are the process of becoming a foster or adoptive parent, required training, and resources available – including financial and other support.
