Schenectady County Public Library (SCPL) has planned a variety of programs and events for the community to learn about and prepare for the total solar eclipse taking place across the U.S. on April 8, 2024. In the County, a partial eclipse is expected to begin at 2:12 p.m., with totality beginning at 3:24 p.m., and maximum eclipse at 3:26 p.m.

Registration is now open for nine eclipse-themed activities geared towards families, school-age children, and teens. SCPL received 2,000 solar eclipse glasses from the Star Library Network. Participants will receive a free pair of solar eclipse glasses, with a maximum of two per family, at each in-person event.

“As we look forward to the upcoming solar eclipse, we invite kids and families to participate in educational events at our libraries across the county and join us at a viewing party on April 8th,” said Schenectady County Legislator Haileab Samuel, Chair of the Education & Libraries Committee. “We’re excited to offer these fun and safe programs for the community to learn more about this unique phenomenon and witness it together.”
