Schenectady County Announces Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

The Schenectady County Legislature announced the availability of Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons for County residents 60 years of age or older to buy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets in New York State.

Booklets are available now through the Schenectady County Office of Senior & Long Term Care Services, while supplies last. A list of participating farmers’ markets is available at https://agriculture.ny.gov/farmers-markets-county?county=Schenectady. The market must indicate that FMNP is accepted.

“Eligible residents aged 60 and older can now receive Senior Farmers Market Program coupon booklets to purchase fruits and vegetables at our local farmers markets,” said County Legislator Omar McGill, Vice Chair of the Health, Housing, and Human Services Committee. “Fresh produce provides essential vitamins and minerals that support overall health. We encourage eligible residents to take advantage of this program to enjoy the benefits of fresh, healthy foods.”

To qualify, you must be 60 years of age or older, and:

  • Have a monthly income at or below
    • $2,322 for a 1-person household, or
    • $3,152 for a 2-person household, or
    • $3,981 for a 3-person household, AND
  • Have not received Farmers’ Market Coupons from any other location this year.

To request a coupon booklet, call Senior Services Coordinator Kathleen Albert at (518) 382-8481 ext. 1304. Booklets can be picked up at the Senior & Long Term Care office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 107 Nott Terrace, Suite 305 in Schenectady.

FreshConnect Coupons for Veterans

Schenectady County recently announced that FreshConnect coupon booklets are now available for veterans and their families through a collaboration with the New York State Department of Agriculture and the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services.

FreshConnect checks are available through the Schenectady County Veterans Service Agency to Active Duty members, Veterans and their immediate family members, as well as un-remarried surviving spouses of Veterans.[1] FreshConnect coupons can be used for fresh produce and other food items at participating farmers markets throughout New York State.
