Free to Schenectady County Residents
Schenectady County will hold a rabies vaccination clinic for cats, ferrets and dogs in Rotterdam later this month. The clinic is free to Schenectady County residents – appointments and face coverings are required. Cats and Ferrets must be in carriers, and dogs must be leashed.
Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS) transitioned to electronic registration and a drive-thru clinic model to continue providing rabies vaccines to pets during the pandemic. Residents register online for an appointment time and provide information about their animals. This allows SCPHS to create a vaccination certificate for each scheduled pet. The new model has reduced stress on animals and wait times and allowed residents with more than one type of pet to receive vaccines during the same appointment.
“Throughout the pandemic Schenectady County has found creative ways to continue providing the services our community depends on,” said Schenectady County Legislator Holly Vellano. “Pets are members of the family and they need to stay up-to-date on their vaccinations, even during a pandemic.”

Schenectady County conducted its first drive thru rabies clinic in September 2020 in Glenville. During that event, and another held in Glenville in November, a total of 259 animals were vaccinated – 116 cats and 143 dogs.
