Applications Open for Float Participation

The Schenectady County Legislature has announced that applications are now open for the Schenectady County Holiday Parade, the Northeast’s largest nighttime parade, presented by the City and County of Schenectady. Groups are invited to participate with their most clever holiday-themed floats. Each group will have an opportunity to perform for 45 seconds in front of the reviewing stand which will be by Proctors Theatre on State Street. Last year more than 100 organizations participated.

This year the parade is embracing the traditional spirit of the holiday season by making the essence of the event – a “holiday parade” – to be the theme. Organizers have a lot planned for this year’s celebratory parade, and the community is encouraged to stay tuned as announcements about the Grand Marshal, special activities, and new partnerships are forthcoming.

We’re excited to announce that applications for this year’s holiday parade are now open,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “It’s a great opportunity for local groups and businesses to join in the fun and spread holiday cheer. We encourage everyone to participate and make this parade the best one yet!”

“This year's parade will focus on celebrating the true meaning of the holiday season, inviting everyone to showcase their creativity and what the season means to them,” said Schenectady County Legislator Cathy Gatta, Chair of the Tourism, Arts & Special Events Committee. “We look forward to seeing how our community brings this festive spirit to life.”

The event is scheduled to step off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in downtown Schenectady. The Holiday Parade is produced under the leadership of the County and City of Schenectady, with presenting sponsor MVP Health Care, in partnership with the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation, The Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, and Discover Schenectady.

Applications are available at www.schenectadycountyny.gov/parade. Entrance fees are $100, or $75 for non-profit organizations. Applications and fees must be submitted or postmarked no later than October 23, 2024.
