Schenectady County Administers Record Number of Vaccines

Schenectady County COVID-19 Update

Over 3,400 First-Dose Vaccines Administered in 7-Day Period

Schenectady County administered 3,446 first-dose vaccines during the week of March 6-12, 2021.

On average, Schenectady County has received weekly allotments of approximately 500 COVID-19 vaccines from NYS. The County received over 2,200 additional Pfizer vaccines from NYS, which allowed Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS) to administer it’s record number of vaccines in a 7-day period to date.

“The County’s efforts last week demonstrate that if the state provides the doses, we will get them to the people,” said Schenectady County Legislator Sara Mae Pratt, Vice-Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. “SCPHS staff have streamlined the process, shortening wait times and increasing space for social distancing to provide the safest, most efficient process possible. The County will continue working to get more vaccines for our residents and to increase accessibility, especially for those who are unable to travel to Albany or other sites around the state.”

Vaccination PODs

During the week of March 6-12, 2021, Schenectady County conducted 2 mass vaccination PODs (point of distribution) at Rivers Casino & Resort for individuals 60+ and individuals with comorbidities or underlying conditions, a POD to vaccinate teachers, and a POD at the YMCA to vaccinate eligible staff and residents. This is in addition to the regularly scheduled vaccines administered at SUNY Schenectady, the County’s main COVID-19 vaccination site.

Schenectady County is partnering with faith communities and other community leaders, including the Black Nurses Coalition and the Schenectady NAACP, to hold several neighborhood-based PODs at local churches and community centers over the next few weeks. Since the record week, SCPHS has conducted community PODs at the Schenectady Hindu Temple and the Faith Deliverance Tabernacle in Schenectady, administering a total of 532 vaccines at those locations.
