Seeking Additional Businesses to Participate

The One Schenectady Coalition launched the first video in a new series created to spotlight local employers who are actively hiring new employees and who are willing to hire and train underrepresented or underqualified individuals. This Coalition project is a partnership between Schenectady County Connects and The Schenectady Foundation.

The goal of the Business Spotlight Series is to raise awareness of local employment opportunities for jobseekers and to highlight businesses who play a vital role in Schenectady County.

“As we continue recovering from the pandemic, some of our local businesses are finding it difficult to fill job vacancies due to a gap in the skills required and those held by our local workforce,” said Schenectady County Legislator Sara Mae Pratt, Chair of the Workforce Development Committee. “This video series will highlight some of these businesses who are willing to take a chance on someone that might not be a traditional industry hire – someone who may need additional training, or who is new to the job market.”

“Connecting people looking for work with employers is an essential aspect of our efforts,” said Robert Carreau, executive director of The Schenectady Foundation. “There are businesses in our community offering good jobs that offer a career path. Our goal is to raise the awareness of residents as to what these job opportunities look like.”

The first video in the series features STS Steel, Inc., which is located in the City of Schenectady. The video is available at https://youtu.be/KUdBLKC4HPg. Additional videos will be posted as they become available.

One Schenectady Coalition

The One Schenectady Coalition was created as an emergency response and recovery group in March of 2020. The Coalition’s early mission centered around identifying and resolving the needs of local residents, businesses and organizations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, initially this included addressing food insecurity, childcare and housing issues. The Coalition gradually evolved from being a thinktank to an agent of change in our community.
