Kevin Dingle Guilty of Murder in the 2nd Degree

District Attorney

On August 12, 2024, Kevin Dingle (DOB: 6/15/1992) entered a plea of guilty to Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I Felony, in Schenectady County Court before Acting Schenectady County Court Judge Mark J. Caruso. Dingle will receive an indeterminate sentence of twenty (20) years to life incarceration when he is sentenced on October 10, 2024. As part of the plea agreement, Dingle waived his right to appeal his conviction.

The conviction satisfied all charges against Dingle contained in a twelve-count indictment which also charged Dingle with four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Class C Violent Felonies, and seven counts of Tampering With Physical Evidence, Class E Felonies. That same indictment charged a co-defendant, Jeffrey Bashaw, with the same twelve counts. Bashaw’s case is currently awaiting the scheduling of a trial date. Bashaw’s charges contained in the indictment are merely allegations at this time and he is presumed innocent.

Dingle was convicted of murdering Leroy Chisom (DOB: 10/19/1981) on the morning of October 22, 2023, at 764 State Street in the City of Schenectady. Dingle and another man killed Chisom by shooting him several times.  Surveillance video from the District Attorney’s Office’s Camera Project, as well as that of private citizens and businesses, captured Dingle and his co-conspirator's movements prior to and following the murder, allowing the Schenectady Police Department to quickly identify Dingle and Bashaw as suspects. They were both arrested the same day as the murder.

During the investigation, ten shell casings were recovered from the crime scene and two pistols were recovered from a secondary location. Forensic analysis determined that each pistol had fired five, or half, of the ten shell casings. Dingle’s DNA was found on one of the pistols.  The killing appears to have been related to an October 10, 2023 non-fatal shooting that also occurred at 764 State Street. On that date, an individual was shot while inside 764 State. Surveillance video from a local hospital showed Dingle and his co-conspirator visiting that individual at the hospital the night before killing and then again immediately after the murder. That individual has been and remains uncooperative with law enforcement’s investigation into that shooting. While no arrests have been made related to the earlier shooting, Chisom is not believed by law enforcement to have been the shooter in the prior incident, but may have been targeted due to being an associate of an involved person.

The case was investigated by the Schenectady Police Department, the New York State Police Computer Forensic Laboratory, and Schenectady District Attorney’s Office Investigators.  The People are represented by Assistant District Attorney Mike Nobles. Dingle is represented by attorney Clarissa Gentile.
