On June 17, 2022, Corey Sheroka (DOB 1/14/89), a resident of Schenectady, pled guilty to one count of Rape in the Second Degree. As part of the plea, Mr. Sheroka admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with a female under the age of fifteen years old who was known to him.
The above plea took in full satisfaction a six-count indictment including allegations involving one count of Rape in the Second Degree, three counts of Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree as a Sexually Motivated felony, one count of Forcible Touching, and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The investigation began when the victim’s teacher noticed concerning text messages on the child’s phone. At that time, the school social worker informed the police of their findings. Schenectady Youth Aid Bureau Detective Kristen Florell investigated with the help of Schenectady County Child Protective Services. The victim was interviewed at the Schenectady Child Advocacy Center where she disclosed the sexual assault. Medical evidence and text messages corroborated the child’s story.
Mr. Sheroka will be sentenced to 7 years in prison with 10 years of parole and a 25-year full stay away order of protection in favor of the victim. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life upon release from prison. The Defendant pled guilty in Schenectady County Court in front of Acting County Court Judge Mark J. Caruso.
