Board of Elections Reminds Residents of Voter Registration Deadline

Registration Deadline is October 8 for November 2021 General Election

The Schenectady County Board of Elections (BOE) is reminding residents that the deadline to register to vote for the upcoming General Election is Friday, October 8, 2021.

Eligible residents can register in person at the Board of Elections by October 8, or if registering by mail, the application must be postmarked by October 8. Additionally, you may also submit your voter application form at the Department of Motor Vehicles, either in person or on their web site by visiting https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application, if you already have DMV-issued identification.  More information, including eligibility requirements and registration applications, is available at www.elections.ny.gov/VotingRegister.html.

Poll Workers

The BOE is also seeking registered voters to serve as poll workers during the upcoming general election. Poll workers are needed for Election Day on Tuesday, November 2, 2021

Poll workers are responsible for performing a variety of tasks including: signing in voters, directing voters to their correct polling place, assisting voters that may need help voting and documenting information on appropriate forms. Bilingual individuals, speaking fluent English and Spanish, are also needed and encouraged to apply.

Poll workers can earn $210 for working on Election Day (5am-9:30pm) and $35 for training.

Requirements to be a Schenectady County poll worker:

  • At least 18 years old;
  • Registered voter in Schenectady County;
  • Proficiency in English – Bilingual workers also needed; and
  • Willing to serve the voting public.
