Since late 2000, the state-of-the-art ice rink at the Schenectady County Recreational Facility has served residents of Schenectady County and ice skating enthusiasts from the entire Capital Region.

The ice rink offers a wide range of recreational skating, ice hockey and figure skating programs for all ages, and is the home of Schenectady Youth Hockey Association, GMSVS Storm High School Hockey, Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa High School Hockey and numerous Adult Ice Hockey Leagues.

Most events including public skate are drop-in activities and do not require advance registration.  Visitors may pay by cash or personal check.

The Schenectady County Legislature passed a resolution to invest $2.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to expand and renovate the Schenectady County Recreational Facility (SCRF). The expansion plan includes the addition of 4,660 square feet of space for four new locker rooms, an additional changing room, expanded restroom facilities, and a new and larger front entrance. It also includes a new exterior modern façade, a new room for activities, and extends the parking lot approximately 30 spaces.

Public Ice Skating

Hit the ice and have some fun!  Whether you are a first time skater, or an experienced pro, public skate is a time to enjoy ice time with your family, friends, and neighbors. 

Stackable buckets are available to help support first-time and beginning ice skaters.  A limited number of sleds are available.  A skating sled is a great tool that allows a skater to stand upright while being pushed by an adult.

Senior Skate

Stay fit and active and ice skate with other seniors. All seniors (55+) are welcome to participate in Senior Skate.

You plan the party and bring the cake, we'll bring the ice.  Party packages include 2-hours of public skating, skate rentals, two tables, and your own private party room and locker room.

Open Figure Skating $15
Drop-in open ice is reserved for figure skaters of all ages and abilities. Practice your routine, brush up on your technique, or log valuable ice time with other figure skaters. Private lessons are allowed during open figure skating. 

Open Hockey $15
Drop-in open ice time for hockey players of all ages and abilities. Suit up to practice your puck handling and game time maneuvers, or join other players in a casual pick-up game. Lessons and coaching are allowed during open hockey. 

Stick and Puck $10
Ice time is valuable for any hocket player. Practice your fundamentals, work on your skating, stickhandling, and shooting. 

Old Timer Hockey $20
Join in on an old-fashioned, low-impact, comfortably paced, pick-up game with other seniors in the area and stay in the game. Call for more information.
