Schenectady County Legislature Awards Over $50,000 to Local Fire Departments

2022 Schenectady County Fire Grants Awardees

The Schenectady County Legislature awarded grants totaling $53,475 to local fire departments through the County’s Fire Service Improvement Grant Fund earlier tonight.

The funds were appropriated by the Legislature in the 2022 budget to help local departments enhance their capabilities in response to the impact and magnitude unusual storms, natural disasters and everyday responses have on their resources. Since 2019 the Schenectady County Legislature has awarded over $200,000 to local fire departments through the grant.

“Volunteer fire departments provide vital services that our communities rely on every day, especially in our suburban and rural communities,” said County Legislator Pete Frisoni, Vice Chair of the Committee on Public Safety & Firefighting. “These grants help keep the departments equipped with the tools they need to do what they do best – serving our families in their time of need.”

The following departments were awarded grant funding:

Alplaus Fire Department - $4,242

Beukendaal Fire Department - $7,935

Glenville Hill Fire Department - $8,502

Funding will be used to purchase vehicle extrication stabilization equipment, water and wild land rescue equipment and gear, positive pressure ventilation fans, thermal imaging camera, a boat motor for fire boat, Automated External Defibrillator and other equipment to help the Fire Departments in the County provide service to our residents. All departments that submitted a request were awarded grant funding.
