Early Voting for the 2022 August Primary Begins on Saturday
The Schenectady County Board of Elections (SCBOE) would like to remind voters to plan their vote for the 2022 August Primary Election, which is for US Congress and NYS Senate.

“Voters who have questions about their eligibility or enrollment should reach out to our office as soon as possible so staff can assist you,” said Schenectady County Board of Elections Commissioners Amy M. Hild and Darlene Harris. “We’d like to thank CDTA for providing additional transportation options to our Early Voting site at the Hon. Karen B. Johnson Library.”
To be eligible to vote in a primary, you must live in the municipality where the primary election is taking place AND be an enrolled member in the specific party that has a primary election. Absentee Ballots
Voters who wish to apply to vote by absentee ballot due to the COVID-19 pandemic may utilize the absentee ballot forms and check the box for “Temporary illness or physical disability”.
Absentee ballot applications are available on www.schenectadycounty.com/boe under Vote Absentee and must be submitted in-person at 2696 Hamburg Street until August 22, 2022. Absentee ballot drop boxes will be available at all Early Voting poll sites, all Primary Day poll sites, and at the SCBOE during normal hours of operation.
New Absentee Ballot Procedure
Due to a recent change in law, New York State voters are no longer permitted to cast a ballot on a voting machine if they have already been issued an absentee ballot for that election. Voters who have already been issued an absentee ballot can still vote in person using an affidavit ballot. The affidavit ballot will be kept separate until the election is completed. Election officials will verify whether the voter’s absentee ballot has been received. If the voter’s absentee ballot has been received, the affidavit ballot will not be counted. If the voter’s absentee ballot has not been received, the affidavit ballot will be counted. More information is available at www.elections.ny.gov/VotingAbsentee.html.
Early Voting
Early voting is the same as voting on Election Day. When you arrive at an early voting location, you will check in, receive a ballot, and vote. Instructions will be available at the early voting sites, and sample ballots are available at www.schenectadycounty.com/boe. If you vote during the early voting period, you are not eligible to vote on Primary Election Day, which is August 23, 2022.

Trolley Transportation
The Schenectady County Board of Elections is partnering with CDTA to provide additional transportation options to connect the community with the Hon. Karen B. Johnson Library early voting site. A trolley will circulate to the bus stops along Union Street, Nott Terrace, State Street and Clinton Street for drop-off at the library. This service will run from Saturday, August 13 through Sunday, August 21. Trolley hours will be Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm, Monday and Wednesday from 12pm to 8pm, and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Primary Election Day: August 23rd
Primary Election Day is Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Eligible voters can vote in-person from 6am to 9pm. Polling sites for Primary Election Day are available at www.schenectadycounty.com/boe.
