New Program Space and Seating Added
Schenectady County held a ribbon cutting ceremony to reopen the Woodlawn branch of the Schenectady County Public Library System. The library officially opens to the public on June 7th, and will be open on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am to 5pm.
The renovation includes the addition of program space and seating, updated lighting, new circulation desk that increases accessibility, a new book return box and reconfigured bookshelves which make them more user-friendly.
“Schenectady County has invested over $4.2 million in capital projects across our 9 libraries because we know how important they are to the community,” said Schenectady County Legislator Peggy King, Chair of the Committee on Education and Libraries. “While the library has limited hours due to the pandemic, we are working to increase hours, programing and other resources that our families depend on.”
“We decided to move forward with renovating the Woodlawn branch while our libraries were closed to in-person services due to COVID-19,” said Schenectady County Legislator Gary Hughes. “Now that the renovations are done, families can enjoy this new space that better meets their needs.”
“Libraries are so much more than books. They are places for families, friends and neighbors to meet and learn,” said Schenectady County Legislator Philip Fields. “The renovations made to the Woodlawn library make it a more comfortable place to visit.”
"Schenectady County, the Trustees, and the Staff of the Library have worked so hard to bring this branch online with a better feel,” said Dr. Bill Levering, President of the Board of Trustees. “We are all so pleased to be able to meet the essential needs of the neighborhood with this effort."
