The Schenectady County Legislature will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on January 16, 2024 at the Hon. Karen B. Johnson (Central) Library in Schenectady. According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative, and B negative.
January is designated as National Blood Donor Month to recognize the importance of giving blood while celebrating the lifesaving impact of those who roll up a sleeve to help patients in need. It is also a time to encourage new and lapsed donors to resolve to give blood during the winter months – one of the most difficult times to maintain a sufficient blood supply.
"Blood donation is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways we can support each other as a community, especially during the winter months when the need is greatest," said Schenectady County Legislator Omar McGill, Vice-Chair of the Health, Housing, and Human Services Committee. "This blood drive is a chance for all of us to come together, give what we can, and make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most."
