Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office Awarded Accredited Status for Civil Division

Schenectady County Sheriff Dagostino receives a proclamation from Schenectady County Legislator Tom Constantine

One of Only 35 Sheriffs Offices in New York State to have all Three Divisions Accredited

The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office announced that it has successfully completed the accreditation process for their Civil Division. The Agency was officially recognized and awarded accredited status by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association on May 14, 2024. The accreditation is valid for five years.

The New York State Sheriffs’ Association Accreditation Program is voluntary and designed to improve operations, increase morale, reduce incidences of liability, reduce insurance costs, and present a professional image to the community.[1]

“Receiving accreditation for all three divisions is a significant achievement for our Sheriff’s Office and reflects our ongoing commitment to professionalism and excellence in serving our community,” said Schenectady County Sheriff Dominic Dagostino. “This milestone has been a goal of ours since taking office, and I’m proud of our team’s dedication to reaching it.”

To gain accreditation, the Civil Division’s policies and procedures were reviewed, updated and implemented to ensure the division operates under standards that reflect the most current best practices and emphasize training.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Patrol Division was officially recognized and awarded accredited status by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) on December 8, 2022, and their Corrections Division first achieved accreditation from the New York State Sheriffs’ Association in 2012 and earned their latest reaccreditation in 2022.
