The Schenectady County Legislature will consider a resolution at their committee meeting on Monday, April 6, 2024 to transfer the properties located at 742, 754, and 758 State Street to the Capital Region Land Bank. To take effect, the resolution must also pass during the regular meeting of the Legislature on May 14, 2024. If passed, the building on the property will be demolished and the site will be cleaned up to prepare it for new development.
“Transferring the land for demolition is a crucial step towards revitalizing the property and the neighborhood,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Consolidating these parcels and making them shovel-ready for new development will not only remove blight but it will also bring us closer to our goal of bringing a food market to the area, ensuring that residents and families have better access to fresh, healthy foods.”
The property at 754 State Street in the City of Schenectady is 2.13 acres, includes a large building, and is accessible from both Albany Street and State Street. In 2022, the County entered into an agreement for the option to purchase these properties, commonly known as 754 State Street, in the City of Schenectady to facilitate the construction of a food market at that location. The option agreement gave the County the right to purchase the property for $950,000. The County exercised the option earlier this year, purchasing the property with American Rescue Plan Act funds.
