Schenectady County announced that over 25 foreclosed properties will be auctioned off online from now until October 20, 2023. The properties consist of single family, commercial, and vacant land. All auction information is available at https://www.collarcityauctionsonline.com/servlet/List.do?auctionId=922.
“Foreclosed property auctions offer a win-win for taxpayers by not only recovering lost revenue but also revitalizing neglected properties, ultimately boosting property values and local tax bases,” said Anthony Jasenski, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature.
Since 2008 Schenectady County has put more than 425 properties back on the tax rolls through the auction process, either by being sold or redeemed by the tax delinquent owner. Additional properties have been transferred to our local municipalities or dedicated as park land to expand green space throughout the County. The county’s 2022 property auction was the first one conducted exclusively online.
In 2020 the County Legislature cancelled the first three months of interest on property taxes payable to the County and in 2021, five months of interest were cancelled. The County also delayed tax foreclosures until 2022 to help businesses and families recover from the pandemic.
