Project Life Saver

The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, and other related conditions or disorders.  This rapid response program aids in locating those who are at constant risk of the wandering and returning them to their families or caregivers. 

Project Lifesaver is provided to Schenectady County residents as a result of a partnership established between the Sheriff’s Office, Schenectady County Office for Long Term Care, and the Autism Action Network of Schenectady County. 

Rapid Response is Essential

Searching for a lost or wandering loved one with Alzheimer's, autism, Down syndrome or other cognitive conditions is a growing and serious responsibility. Without effective procedures and equipment, searches can involve multiple agencies, hundreds of officers, countless hours, and thousands of dollars. 

Most importantly, time is of the essence.  Every minute lost increases the risk of a tragic outcome. 

By working closely with the Schenectady County Sheriff's Office, Schenectady County Senior Long Term Care, and Project Lifesaver International, you can save time and locate your loved ones quickly.

Citizens enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a small personal transmitter around the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal. If an enrolled client goes missing,simply the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office and a trained emergency team respond to the wanderer’s area. Most who wander are found within a few miles from home, and search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes.

Recovery times for enrolled clients average 30 minutes — 95% less time than standard operations.
