The Marine Patrol Unit consists of 4 fully trained deputies and numerous part time deputies and patrols approximately 26 miles of the Mohawk River. We have one 2017, 21-foot Brunswick boat and 2 Kawasaki Jet skis. We enforce all NYS penal, Canal, and Marine navigation laws. During a typical year we work safety for the many high school rowing regattas, Mohawk Harbor concerts, US Ski Team events, and firework displays on the river. We conduct vessel safety inspections making sure vessels have the proper equipment necessary to operate on the river. In 2020 we conducted 46 vessel safety inspections that had approximately 26 violations. Our main objective is making sure the river is a safe place for all boaters, kayakers, rowers and personal water crafts.
