The 2023 Schenectady County Homeowners $250 Rebate Program was included in the Majority Caucus’ amendments to the 2023 Adopted Operating Budget to provide $9 million in relief to over 35,000 homeowners.
Schenectady County homeowners who received a STAR exemption or STAR credit check in 2022 are eligible for the program.
Only one check will be issued for each qualifying property, typically to the primary owner of the property.
Checks are expected to reach eligible homeowners by the end of October. If you think you are eligible for the program but haven’t received a check by October 31, submit your information online or call 518-388-4294 for assistance.
Residents who purchased a home at the end of 2022 or in 2023 do not qualify for the program. The eligibility list was created based on the 2022 final assessment roll, which was created in the fall of 2022.
In many instances it is subject to taxation. Please consult with a tax professional.
We anticipate a significant number of inquiries regarding this program and are asking homeowners to only reach out if they believe they are eligible for the program and have not received a check by October 31, or if they encounter any issues with the received check. Schenectady County is dedicated to addressing all inquiries as promptly as possible and we appreciate everyone’s patience in this process.
